Reviews and Video - Paul McCartney at Citi Field

Jul 19, 2009

Paul McCartney performing live at Citi Field, the new home for the Mets. On Friday the house was packed and by all accounts the former Beatles frontman Sir Paul McCartney delivered a home run. The skies opened and the rain poured but the crowd stayed and rocked with McCartney. Billy Joel even pitched in and helped out a bit for the first show of the weekend.

Jon Pareles of the New York Times writes, "McCartney reminisced about 1965, imitating the muffled and distorted sound the Beatles got through the old stadium’s P.A. system, which by all accounts was drowned out by screaming girls."

WPIX adds, "McCartney rocked out just as he did with the Beatles at the August, 1965 concert at Shea Stadium. He alluded to that legendary concert several times throughout the night."

Video is at the Huffington Post. The New York Daily News notes there were several celebrities and McCartney played his 007 theme from Roger Moore's "Live and Let Die," but it was another James Bond, Pierce Brosnan, who rocked in the eighth row! Good show by all accounts and a special night for New York.
