Richard Sherman PEDS Scandal Replaced with Seattle Seahawks CB's New Villain Persona
Richard Sherman had his chance to sound off last night after the NFC Championship game and let everyone know he thinks he is the best defensive back in the National Football League.
The Seattle Seahawks had just defeated the San Francisco 49ers 23-17 in the NFC championship game in Seattle and Sherman had made a key play, tipping the ball in the end zone that was eventually intercepted, ending the game.
That put his mug in front of Erin Andrews, and Richard Sherman went on an epic rant against Michael Crabtree, the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver the pass was intended for.
Before that interview, the Seattle Seahawks cornerback was best known for his PEDs scandal last season.
Sherman beat the rap and won an overturn of proposed a 4-game suspension where the NFL claimed he tested positive for performance enhancing drugs.
The Seattle Seahawks have had several players suspended for PEDS since 2011 (this report says they have been dubbed 'Seadderall') and during December 2012, the National Football League informed two players from the Seahawks team that they would join the list of Seattle Seahawks who have ben suspended for PEDs.
The NFL hit Sherman and fellow Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner with four-game suspensions for PED use.
Both players appealed, but Browner dropped his appeal and served his suspension.
Sherman stuck with his appeal and actually claimed a rare win against the NFL.
NFL.com's Albert Breer reported Sherman won his case because of a "major problem with the collection procedure," according to a report on the league's website.
Now Sherman's former alleged PEDs use takes a back seat to his new persona - the villain.
In a comical rant on Fox after the NFC Championship, Sherman showed a little bit of some narcissistic tendencies.
Here's how the interview went last night...
– [Sherman:] “Well, I’m the best corner in the game! When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that’s the result you gonna get! Don’t you EVER talk about me.”
– [Andrews:] Who was talking about you?
– [Sherman:]“Crabtree. Don’t you open your mouth about the best. Or I’m gonna shut it for you real quick. L-O-B.”
Watch the video below.
Sherman graduated from Stanford University with a degree in communications, some have suggested he just wanted to use the time to make sure he got his name out for possible future endorsements.
Should he have given his teammates more credit for their part in the win as well - or is it best to turn narcissistic for the sake of endorsements and hype in the media and online?
NFL Super Bowl XLVII
The Denver Broncos will play the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl in two weeks in New York City.
While the 49ers are thin at receiver, the Broncos are loaded.
Sherman can only cover one of three wide receivers (all who aren't 'mediocre') in Wes Welker, Eric Decker or Demetrius Thomas).
Seattle opened as the favorite in Las Vegas, but all of the early bettors seem to like Denver.
For Super Bowl 2014 the oddsmakers now have the line at Denver -2.
Can Sherman back up his mouth with his play against Manning?
We will know in less than two weeks, the game is on Sunday, February 2.
