Rock Star Supernova Winner Lukas Rossi, Let the Conspiracies Begin

Sep 14, 2006

Lukas Rossi took home the glory on the finale of Rock Star Supernova. The little Canadian rocker has the absolute best pure voice of any of the singers but there will be conspiracy theories abound as his victory was predicted by Janet Charlton way back in August.

She is in absolute gloat mode. "We Told You So!" she writes on her blog.

Dave Navarro adds on his blog - Damn, I'm gonna have to ask that Janet Charlton for some lotto numbers! She IS good! HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Next up was Sportsbook.Com.

The online gambling house allowed bets on the contest until "suspicious betting patterns from California" emerged. A press release noted that "All the new bettors were from California and all placed the maximum wager on Lukas Rossi to win Rock Star Supernova. The show has a live finale, so the winner should not be known. Sportsbook.com has decided to halt betting for fear that the band including rock legends Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke has already chosen their front man in Rossi and the word leaked out."

Yikes.

This show really was a good program for rock fans. It's a shame it has to end in such controversy.

The Houston Chronicle's Tubular asks -

"Was the early fix in, and was Houston's Dilana robbed on Rock Star: Supernova? In choosing bombastic Lukas as its singer, the band said it was simply complying with fans' votes, which placed Lukas first and Dilana second.

We'll have to take their word for it, but one thing's for sure: Even if an early "fix" wasn't in, an early give-away was. Midway through the season finale, CBS aired a Survivor commercial which included shots of Lukas and audio of his original song Headspin. The producer of Survivor wouldn't play up an also-ran from Rock Star (a show he also produces) if he didn't already know that Lukas won.

Oh and to make matter worse the band mayhave lost their name.

AP reports that "Rock Star: Supernova" cannot call itself Supernova when it takes its act on the road, a judge has ruled.

A Southern California rock band that has called itself Supernova since 1991 and recorded three albums under the name sued CBS, the show's participants and Mark Burnett Productions in June claiming unfair competition and trademark infringement.

United States District Court Judge John A. Houston issued a preliminary injunction Tuesday barring that band from performing, recording or selling music under the Supernova name pending the outcome of the lawsuit.

Attorney John Mizhir, Jr., who represents the original Supernova, characterized the judge's order as "a major victory."

"This is sweet justice," he said in a statement. "The band members have worked hard for the past 17 years to establish the name Supernova and they are entitled to continue to perform without any other parties - large or small - infringing on their rights."

"Rock Star: Supernova" premiered on July 5, and was hosted by Brooke Burke and Dave Navarro. The Panic Channel, Navarro's new band, will support Supernova on its tour along with some of this season's contestants.
