Scarlett Johansson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt of Don Jon - Thoughts on Porn
Scarlett Johansson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt of the movie Don Jon shared their thoughts on porn recently while promoting the movie overseas.
Joseph says he doesn't think there is anything "inherently bad" about porn while Scarlett thinks porn could be liberating in the right circumstance.
Gordon-Levitt who also wrote and directed the film, thinks people need to take more responsibility for how they let different types of media, including porn, affect them.
Speaking at an official gala screening of the movie at the Odeon cinema in London's Leicester Square as part of the 57th BFI London Film Festival earlier, the 32-year-old actor exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I don't think any particular media is inherently bad. It's on us as individuals to interpret the media that we consume, whether that's pornography, movies, television or commercials."
The romantic-comedy tells the story of a young man, who develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and works to become less selfish, but Joseph doesn't think its subject matter is controversial.
He said: "I think everybody's always talking about sex. From the ancient Greeks to Shakespeare to now. Don Jon is sort of a timeless classic story."
Joseph's co-star Scarlett Johansson, 28, previously confessed that she believed porn could be liberating.
She said: "Pornography can be degrading or can be sexually liberating, if you know how to use it and it is made from an artistic point of view.
"But 'Don Jon' is not a film about pornography, it is a social criticism against consumerism."
