Shaun White Selfish? Brandon Davis, Kyle Mack Out of Sochi Winter Olympics 2014 With Late Decision
Shaun White has been labeled as a selfish, spoiled star by some for his decision to pull out of the slopestyle snowboarding event at the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014 so late, his tardy decision likely cost Brandon Davis or Kyle Mack an opportunity of a lifetime.
White decided very late not to compete in the slopestyle snowboarding event and that left the US Olympic Team short a competitor.
If he would have decided sooner not to compete, another US athlete would have filled his spot and that would have likely been 18-year old Brandon Davis or 15-year-old Kyle Mack.
Mack was the fifth placed finisher, and might have been invited, although his overall points may have been too low, and the spot would have gone to Davis if that would have been the case.
White's spot could have gone to sixth-place finisher Davis if Mack didn't qualify, and he sounded off on the well known Shaun White.
“It just kind of sucks,” Davis told Time.com.
"I should be there, but Shaun decided he didn’t want to do it...It’s not a big deal for him. But for most people, the Olympics is a whole other level. It could have kicked started my career a bit, and gotten the ball rolling."
15-year old Mack took to Twitter to express his frustration, saying "love how shaun drops out of the Olympics. That could have been my spot."
Is White selfish?
He's not injured an only pulled out of the slopestyle snowboarding event because he knew he wouldn't win and wanted to concentrate on the halfpipe, another event that White can win.
