Skate Cuts Achilles (Video) NHL Hockey Star Erik Karlsson Cut by Blade
Hockey player's skate cuts another's Achilles - watch the video below.
Erik Karlsson is a defenseman for the NHL's Ottawa Senators and he suffered a devastating injury on Wednesday night when his leg was cut by another player's skate.
According to the USA Today, Karlsson will need surgery to repair his left Achilles after the tendon was cut by a skate blade late in the second period against Pittsburgh.
The video below shows that Penguins forward Matt Cooke's skate blade comes down on the left leg of reigning Norris Trophy winner Karlsson and he immediately collapses in pain.
"You knew right away there was an issue. He's a player who is irreplaceable. It's unfortunate, but there are no words that can explain what we are feeling," Senators goalie Craig Anderson said.
Cooke's teammates say it was not an intentional shot.
"I don't think he tried to do what he did. It was just an accident. There's no intention on Cookey's part to hurt him," Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby said.
The two players tangled against the boards and it was then that the blade cut Karlsson's Achilles.
