Star Trek’s new Captain Kirk says he doesn't get as much sex as William Shatner did in the role. Chris Pine, 28, has revealed his Captain Kirk is less of the ladies' man than Shatner portrayed in the 1960s series. "My character does not get ... as much as the original Captain Kirk," Pine said.

Shatner originally played the role of James T. Kirk on TV from 1966 to 1969 and in seven subsequent films. Although he will not appear in the new Star Trek he has sent Pine his blessing to play the role.


Pine said: “I wrote William Shatner a letter and explained who I was because I heard there was bad blood between him and the studio. “I said, 'I'm just an actor who happened to get a role that happened to be James T. Kirk, and I'm not trying to usurp your status or anything'.

He replied, 'Thank you very much for the letter. I wish you the best of luck.' I have it on my fridge."
