Tonight Show Ratings Plummet - Jay Leno Sinks Beneath Conan O'Brien Numbers

Sep 7, 2010

The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien set ratings for record lows for the NBC show when he hosted, but those now have been passed by Jay Leno. The overall NBC show's viewer numbers slipped below David Letterman while Conan was hosting, and fell to record low ratings. He is now gone after a bitter fight and Leno is back, but the show is still struggling for viewers.

Now Jay Leno has even lower numbers than Conan's poor showing, at least for the summer 2010 run of the NBC late-night staple, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

CBS News reports "since the end of the broadcast season, Leno is averaging 3.8 million viewers and a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating."

The report reveals: "That's a 12 percent improvement in total audience compared with O'Brien's "Tonight" show, but it's 23 percent off in that targeted demographic and down in both measurements compared with Leno's hosting gig two years ago."

It appears the trend is to turn away from all of the late night TV comics.

As bad as the numbers are for Leno, he trounces Letterman's poor numbers and is "back to beating his top rival, CBS' "Late Show With David Letterman," by a healthy 22% in both metrics," the report reveals.
