Vince Vaughn has acquired the rights to produce 'The Risk Agent'.

The Hollywood funnyman is set to produce and star in the film adaptation of Ridley Pearson's fast-paced hostage thriller novel.

Vince has teamed up with Wild West Picture Show Productions to co-produce the movie with his sister Victoria Vaughn and Sandra J. Smith, and Michael Lerner has been approached to write the script of the book, which was published in June, according to Deadline.com.

The action film will follow hostage extraction specialists Grace Chu and John Knox, who are recruited by a company called Rutherford Risk to save a Chinese national and his security agent when they are snatched from the streets of Shanghai.

The book is the first in a new series, so it could become a franchise for the 42-year-old actor, best known for his comic roles.

Vince also recently acquired the rights to Randall Wallace's 'Gunslingers' and will next appear in alien invasion flick 'The Watch' with Jonah Hill.

He is also due to reunite with Owen Wilson in forthcoming comedy movie 'Interns', which will see the 'Wedding Crashers' duo play two forty-something corporate employees who decide to change career paths when their company downsizes.
