Woman Who Stopped for Ducks Faces Life in Prison - Guilty Verdict, Sentencing Upcoming
A woman who stopped for ducks faces life in prison for causing an accident that killed a motorcycle rider and his daughter.
The story is from Canada and involves a woman, Emma Czornobaj, who stopped on a highway to try to help some baby ducks she thought were in peril on the highway median.
21-year old (at the time) Emma stopped her car in a lane of traffic, quickly exiting the vehicle to try to round up the ducks.
With the vehicle in the roadway, a motorcycle rider was riding with his daughter smashed into her vehicle and was killed.
His daughter was also killed and the man's wife and the girl's mother saw the entire horrific accident as she was falling behind in her car.
Czornobaj has been found guilty of causing the deaths and now faces a harsh sentence if the maximum sentence is imposed on her.
Andre Roy is the name of the man who died, and according to reports from the Canadian Press, "was traveling with his 16-year-old daughter, Jessie, on his Harley-Davidson, (and) was driving an estimated 70 mph to 80 mph in a roughly 60 mph zone."
The husband died in the wife's arms at the scene and their daughter died later at the hospital.
It should be noted that the wife says she does not blame Emma for the accident.
Sentencing will be August 8, 2014.
