It's just days away and If anything warranted a sequel, it was Disney's High School Musical with Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. The movie is campish but the simple musical story of two kids breaking stereotypes and meeting over karaoke has resulted in the top-selling album of 2006, a cross-country concert tour, a series of books and a stage adaptation performed by 1,500 theatrical troupes all over the United States.
Zac Efron is now a phenom and everyone wants to know about Vanessa. The film premieres on the Disney Channel Aug. 17 at 8 p.m. ET, High School Musical 2 has the same blockbuster potential and is moving Troy, Gabriella and the rest of the gang from the classroom to the country club.
Us Weekly Magazine has this short review: School's out for summer in this colorful sequel to the 2006 TV movie phenom. The break gives spoiled Sharpay (a funny Ashley Tisdale) plenty of time to try to steal East High's cutest boy, Troy ( Zac Efron), from Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens).
The cartoonish plot, which really sags in the middle, is as flimsy as a piece of loose-leaf paper. Put the cynicism aside, though, and just enjoy the pop confections, clever choreography (costaged by director Kenny Ortega) and joyous cast that literally bounces off the walls.
Regardless of any "cartoonish plot," young girls from ages 6 through high school find Zac hot and the young boys are quite fond of Vanessa as well. This will be a monster hit!
