Zayn Malik's ex-girlfriend Rebecca Ferguson has spoken out after hearing remarks that her former boyfriend thought their relationship was a big mistake and should have never taken place.

The sexy brunette says he thinks the hunky One Direction singer was forced to say their relationship was a mistake by handlers and says she won't strike back and will take the high road.

The 1D heartthrob recently spoke out about his fling with mother of two Rebecca Ferguson - who he met when they both competed in 'The X Factor' - and Rebecca was unhappy with his comments although she refuses to blame him.

She told new! magazine: ''I was so shocked by what he said!

''I'm not going to retaliate. All I will say is that there have been a lot of things said and he knows so far that I've stayed classy and quiet and bitten my lip.

''I'm not one to reveal big secrets about what's gone on in a relationship, and I think he was probably put up to this. I know him too well to think he'd say it deliberately.''

Zayn, 19, is now dating Perrie Edwards from Little Mix and recently insisted his relationship with Rebecca, 26, should never have happened.

He said: ''It was a wrong idea from the start. It shouldn't have happened. I think it was a wrong decision to make at such a young age.

''Then it did end badly so we don't talk any more.''
